TE AWAMUTU, Monday. The homestead of Mr. L. S. Chamberlain, at Hairini, about five miles from Te Awamutu, was destroyed by firo at 1.30 yesterday morning. Tho owner is at present in Rotorua Hospital following a serious oporation last Wednesday. Mrs. Chamberlain, who was sleoping on tiie verandah, was awakened by a loud crash and found tho building burning fiercely. She roused the sleeping children, but could save none of the valuablo effects. The fire spread to the motor shed and dairy, and both were soon demolished. The buildings were insured for £6OO, the contents for £SOO, and a car for £250, all in the British Traders' Office. The house contained six rooms.
