AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.

THE, SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

UNIVERSITY IN THE LEAD. The fourth series of matches in tho fenior competition of the Auckland Cricket Association was concluded on Saturday under' ideal conditions. In tho principal match .at, Eden Park the Ponsonby batting slumped badly against Eden, which won by 47 runs on the, first, innings. The Y.M.C.A. batting also failed against Parliell and the grade leaders were beaten by 61 runs'on the first innings. Sutherland (39) and Cooper (35), were tho only two batsmen to offer much resistance to the attack.

Some quick scoring resulted in tho match, between Grafton and United

Suburbs on the No. 3 wicket at Eden I Park. Grafton, which was in a sound | position after the first day's play, declared its innings closed with 282 for seven wickets. 'I lie United Suburbs batsmen dealt severely with the Grafton bowling in their second innings and at stumps had totalled 157 runs for one wicket. North Shore suffered a four-point defeat by University at North Shore. Once again the North Shore batsmen failed against the fast University bowlers. Requiring 77 runs to win outright in an hour and amiarter University wiped out tho deficit with twelve minutes to spare. GRAFTON V. UNITED SUBURBS

Grafton- had little difficulty m gammg « win bn the first innings over United Suburbs. In reply to the latter sides total of 146. Grafton carried its first innings *core to 282 for seven wickets and then declared in an attempt to dismiss its opponents aeain for a four-point victory. Bowever United Suburbs in its second venture scored 157 for the loss of ono wicket.: The Grafton batsmen scored nuicklv and one of the . features of tho innings was the batting of Sale, vho defied numerous bowling changes until ho finally fell a victim to Kerr with his s'coro at 66. In United Suburbs second innings Wetherill and Kerr found few diffr cullies in the bowling and both scored freely. Grafton won by 136 runs on the first innings. Scores:—

North Shore in its stxjona innings attempted to force the pace in order to pet sufficient runs to put University ir again. _ Frater, as one of the opening pair, did his part and ran up 36 in quick time, but the rest of the team, with the exception of Goldsworthy. failed 1o stay long.
