NITROGEN FOR GRASSLAND.
HAY AND ENSILAGE CROPS. Apart from producing. early spring and lata' autunln grass soluble nitrogenous manures are useful in growing bigger crops of ensilage, hay-.and grass seed. Sulphate of ammonia is a valuable, form of nitrogen fertiliser for this purpose, and it should be applied to grassland when the paddocks are closed from stock. Sulphate of ammonia has a marked effect on I the growth of ryegrass, a valuably constituent for ensilage .and hay. For grass seed production also it increases tho yieid of seed to a considerable extent. After tho ensilage;; and hay crops are taken off, which should be as early as possible to ensure gutting produce of the highest feeding value, lewt. per acre .of sulphate of ammonia should bo applied to tile paddocks to stimulate the growth of the aftermath and to cover the ground with grass and clover as quickly-as possible before tho dry weather bakes the ground. Early cutting and the use Pf sulphate of ammonia are two factors in -the quick.; recovery of gra« land from which ensilage and hay crops , are taken, <■ I
