HIGH COST TO BRITAIN. LABOUR'S NEW LEGISLATION. (Received November 21, 5.25-p.m.) British Wireless. RUG-BY, Nov. 20. The Chancellor of tho Exchequer, Mr. Philip Snowden, in the House of Commons, gave detailed information about tho estimated expenditure involved under the legislative measures passed sinco the Government took office, or in immediate contemplation. These social measures includo the Unemployment Insurance and Housing Acts passed this year, the Unemployment Insurance Bill, and the Widows and Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Bill now before Parliament, the proposal for raising tho school-leaving age to 15 years, the development of agriculture and forestry, Civil Service bonus concessions, and the concession of paid holidays to civil servants. In the aggregate, tho commitments involve an additional expenditure of £8,250,000 in the current financial year, and of nearly £18,000,000 next year. These totals are exclusive of tho commitments arising out of the Development Acts passed to enable unemployment relief schemes to be undertaken.
