DESERTER FROM STEAMER.
SWEDISH SEAMAN IN COURT. A deserter from the steamer Dalveen, Otto Hellenbei-g, aged 40, a Swedish seaman, appeared in the Police Court yesterday" on a charge of absenting himself from the ship without sufficient excuse. Asked how he would plead, ho said he had no intention of leaving the vessel. Sergeant Angland, of the Queen's Wharf police, said accused had absented himself when the vessel sailed on Wednesday for New Plymouth. She was due there today, and it was desired. to have him placed on board before sho left tho Dominion.
A representative of the shipping company stated accused's fare to New Plymouth would be paid, and he would be returned to the ship. Accused was then remanded to appear in a - week's time to enablo this to bo done.
