ALPINIST'S RECORD.

101 ASCENTS OF. RUAPEHU.

MR. T. A. BLYTH'S ACHIEVEMENT.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN fcOBBESPONDENT.] HAMILTON", Tuesday. What is probably an alpine record has been established by Mr. T. A. Blyth, of Ohakune, who recently climbed Mount Ruapehu for the 101st time. Mr. Blyth intended to obtain his 102 nd view of the crater this week by flying over the mountain top in an aeroplane, but weather conditions made it necessary to postpone the flight. Mr. Blyth ascended Ruapehu for the first time 20 years ago, and has made ascents at frequent intervals ever since, with the exception of the war period. The only change he has noted during his experience has been in the temperature of the water in the crater lake. Six or seven years ago the water was very hot, but when Ngauruhoe became active the water at the summit of. Ruapehu became cold. Recently the temperature of the lake has risen and is now warm. To mark his 101st ascent of Mount Ruapehu Mr. Blyth has presented a cheque for £SO to the management of the Chateau Tongariro, and has expressed a wish that the money should be devoted to building a hut for the convenience of people who visit the Ruapehu ski-ing grounds.
