OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN JOSEPH EASON.

The death has occurred of Mr. John Joseph Eason, aged 79 years. Mr. Eason was for 61 years a member of the Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., and was in the woolbroking business in Dunedin and Wellington for a long period. He was born at Buningyong, near Ballarat, and was present at thQ departure of the famous Burke and Wills' expedition into tho interior of Australia. He arrived in New Zealand in 1863. Later he married the second daughter of the late Mr. C. Bentley, who was one of the first pioneers of Otago. In later years Mr. Eason had been living at Razorback, Pokeno, with his son, Mr. Arthur Eason. His wife died 15 years ago. There are five sons and one. daughter, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The sons are Messrs. Charles Eason, Lower Hutt; William Eason, Johnsonvillej Arthur Eason, Razorback; Edgar Eason, Feilding, and Leonard Eason, Manunui; and the daughter is Mrs. O. E, Austin,» Remuera.
MR. JOHN CANNON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday. An association with the dairy industry of New Zealand since the earliest days has been severed by the death of Mr. John Cannon, of Palmerston North. Mr. Cannon, who was a tinsmith, was bora in Norfolk 75 years ago. He acquired his knowledge of his craft in London and after his marriage he came to New Zealand, in 1882, by the ship Triumph, one of the first steamships to make the trip. Mr. Cannon landed at Auckland and shortly afterwards became engaged in fitting up the New Zealand Dairy Association's factories. He came to Palmerston North 26 years ago. Ho leaves a widow, one son, Mr. John G. Cannon, of Auckland, and one daughter, Mrs. Boswell, of Rongotea. MR. H. P. CLARKE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Tuesday. The death occurred suddenly at Mount Maunganui to-day of Mr. Herbert Pasquale Clarke, who had resided in the Tauranga district for many years. Mr. Clarke's father owned a largo property at To Wairoa, and after his death Mr. H. P. Clarke continued in occupation of the farm, which is now one of the finest in the Bay of Plenty. The late Mr. Clarke was an enthusiastic sportsman and bred a number of good horses on the To Wairoa property. Ho lived at Mount Maunganui and recently acquired a farm in Whareroa district. Ho is survived by a widow and three sons, Messrs. Clarence Clarke, engineer to the Taranaki County Council. Hector Clarke, of To Wairoa, and Harold Clarke, of Hamilton.
DR. GERALD HARPER,
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday.
The death has occurred in London of Dr. Gerald Harper, aged 81. Ho was the ninth son of tho late Bishop Harper, first Bishop of Christchurch. He had practised in London for nearly 50 years. Mr. Georgo Harper, of Christchurch, is a brother. _ • MRS. E. OCKLESTON. The death has occurred of Mrs. Elizabeth Ockleston, of Hobsonville, at the ago of 85 years Mrs. Ockleston was born in Auckland, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sims, who came from Scotland in tho ship Duchess of Argyle in 1842. In 1873 she married the late Mr. Joshua Ockleston, who for some years had farmed with his brother at Hobsonville. He died 53 years ago, leaving Mrs. Ockleston with & young family. Mrs. Ockleston's brother, tha late Mr. Robert Sims, of Frankton, who died only recently, was over 80 years of age. Mrs. Ockleston is survived by three sons, Messrs. W. and R. Ockleston, of Hobsonville, and J. Ockleston, of New Lynn. The funeral took place at Hobsonville on Monday*
