PALUERSTON NORTH, Sunday.

A lightning storm, which was very severe in the vicinity of Halcombe and MakinOj. occurred at the week-end. At the latter place the power lines were struck, which caused an interruption of the service. In one ca.se the cut-out and wires leading into a house were melted into a solid piece of metal. A tree standing near the back door of another house was cut oS close to the ground. The woman occupant of the house, who was only a few i'eet away at the time, escaped uninjured.
