AEROPLANES TO BE USED
[jjy TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT-] HAMILTON. Thursday.
In order to assure sufficient revenue to enable the Bryant House Convalescent Home and other philanthropic work already undertaken to he carried on permanently, the Bryant House trustees have embarked on a stock and stanou agency on a commission basis. As an adjunct to the business it has been decided to employ aeroplanes. The trustees have provided /.n area 400 yards square, situated between Mr D. V. Bryant's home at Te Rapa and St. Andrews golf links, a point three miles north of Hamilton. An additional area, making a total of half a mile square, will be made available if required. The area is ideally situated, and has been favourably commented 011 by Major K. Caldwell, of Auckland, arid Captain M. C. McGregor : of Hamilton, two prominent pilots. Construction 01 Aerodrome.
The land is at. present in pasture and is practically Hat. A contract has been let for the ploughing and levelling of the area, and this work is being put in hand at once. An aerodrome capable of accommodating several machines, including one as Jarge as the Southern Cross, will shortly be built. It is the intention of the trustees to purchase immediately two aeroplanes, one a three-seater with cabin, and the other a two-seater. The actual type has not yet been decided on. The areoplanes will be employed in connection with the stock and station business, which will be Dominion-wide in its scope. Mr. D. V. Bryant will act as honorary manager of the business, and his idea is that when a customer at, say, Gisborne, has land or stock for sale, an aeroplane will be available in Hamilton to convey prospective purchasers to view the property or stock. By this means it is hoped that large deals will be put through with a minimum loss of time.. Investments And Revenue.
Referring to the project to-day, Mr. Bryant stated that the trustees had sold all the land handed over to them with the exception of 500 aa'e;; at Te Rapa, on which 350 cows are being milked for town supply. The proceeds from the sale of the land have been invested, and the interest, as well as the revenue from the dairy, are devoted to the maintenance of the Bryant House Convalescent Home at Karioi, Raglan. The revenue from the stock and station agency will also be invested and a fund established, the interest from which will be earmarked for continuing the philanthropic work after Mr. Bryant's death. There are at present 30 beds in Bryant House, and a further 18 will bft added in the near future. The Bryant House aerodrome will be available for i the use of visiting aviators. Messrs. C. L. MacDiarmid (chairman), Mr. D. V. Bryant (honorary manager), Mr. R. English (secretary),. and Mr. R. Madill and Dr. H. Douglas are the trustees.
