CANTERBURY MARKETS

EASIER TENDENCY IN POTATOES.

[BX TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CIIRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.

The potato market is quiet, and the tendency is easier than at the week-end. The northern inquiry is negligible at the moment. Quotations for prompt deliveries have eased about 5s a ton since the weekend and arc now at £lO to £lO 5s a ton, f.0.b., s.i. The quotation to farmers is £8 15s to £9 on trucks. October delivery is also easier, being quoted at £lO 10s to £lO 15s, us against £ll at the week-end. Up to £9 10s is being offered onUrucks for Dakotns. The Waipiata sailed last night for Auckland with 4400 sacks, 2300 from Timaru and 2100 from Lyttelton. About 1000 sacks were left at the latter port for the Waipalii. Offerings from farmers aro mostly in small lots. It is considered that Wellington will want potatoes for some weeks yet, but a sharp tailing off in the Auckland demand may be looked for. There is no change in other classes of produce. All the principal classes of seeds are in firm demand.
