k BANKS' SHARES SELL FREELY

The bulk of tho business transacted on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was done in banking shares. Except in the case of New Zealands rates wore firm. A slightly easier tone was apparent in the demand for Government securities, and local body debentures, with the exception of tho Auckland Hospital Board's issues, which were wanted at a premium, wero less keenly sought. Banks were vory activo, and in many instances wero stronger. Nationals of New Zealand sold twice unchanged at £6 14s 6d. New South Wales maintained (heir recovery with two sales at £49 ss, there being further buyers at £49, compared with £4B Jss on tho provious day. Unions made a current-prico sale at £l4 15s, and New Zealands had sale one penny easier at 60s 3d.

In insuranop New Zealands wero firmer and two parcels changed hands 6d dearer at 46s 6d. Offers for South British, following publication of tho company's balance-sheet, moved up from 64s 6d to 65s 3d, but sellers did not quoto. The loan and agency and coal groups were fairly steady. Fanners' Co-operative Auctioneerings wero done, ex div., 8s cheaper at 82s. Pukeniiros were weaker and sold 23 6d easier at 70s. In gas the contributing issue of Aucklands had salo twice unaltered at 18s 3d, after which buyers cased 2d to 18s. In miscellaneous Punlop Rubbers were quoted ex div. at 27s 6d without attracting a buyer. Faterino Natural Stock Foods, which has been accepted for listing, appeared for tho first time, shares paid up to 16s being quoted at par. An casing in Taranaki Oils was confirmed with a sale at 4s lOd. At tho final 'call there was a buyer at 4s, compared with 4s lid on the previous day. The mining group was firm, but quiet.
