MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH.

COST OF WATER SUPPLY,

WORK ON NEW NORTH ROAD.

Charges for water supplied by the Auckland City Council were referred to at a meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening.

Tiie Auckland City Council acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Borough Council agreeing to pay at tho rata of Is per thousand gallons on all accounts due for water, and enclosing a cheque for £1234 Is 8d in payment for water supplied for a period ended September 2. The City Council advised that the account amounted to £1455 7s lid, and that the City Council's Water Committee, at its last meeting on September 25, had decided to inform the Borough Council that payment would not be accepted on accounts for water supplied subsequent to July 19 of this year, any amount of which was based on less than the charge provided by the by-law, Is 3d per thousand gallons. The matter was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee for consideration. Dissatisfaction among ratepayers concerning the water meters in the borough was mentioned by Mr. B. Brigham, who said that in his opinion the working of the system should be investigated. The question was referred to the Water; and Fire Brigade Committee for investigation. A progress report on the New North Road extension work was submitted by the engineer. The laying of the concrete slab had been completed with the exception of 140 ft. which had been condemned.The total length laid was 151 A chains, of' which 70 chains on the north-west side was open to traffic. The centre strip had been filled in or cut down as required between the tram terminus and Ennismore Road. Footpaths had been formed up to Ennismore Road, and 33 chains had been dressed with scoria. . . ;

Satisfactory progress was being mada with the formation of the football field in Gribblehurst Park, the area already, levelled off being about 160 ft. by 140 ft. A start on the rock excavation for tha formation of the football field in the Morningside reserve had been made and an area of about 200 ft. by 120 ft. had been levelled. The engineer's report statgd that tha formation of the scoria drive round the mountain had been completed and tha surfacing should be completed at an early date. . The building inspector reported that during the three weeks ended October 10, building permits were issued representing property to the value of £9726 los.-
