MANGERE RIDING.
RESIDENT CONSTABLE*
Representations are to be made by' the Manukau County Council to the Police Department to see if one of the constables of the Otahuhn station can reside in the Mangere Riding of the county and so indirectly act as its guardian. At the meeting of the council yesterday Mr. S. W. House said that several cases of thoft and damage to property, mainly in the eastern section of the riding, had been reported recently, and it was felt that to have a constable living in the district would act as a deterrent. The engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, stated that during the last week-end a toolshed near the Mangere Mountain quarry had been broken into. The action seemed to be the work of larrikins and had been referred to the Onehunga police for investigation. The council adopted Mr. House's suggestion.
