MARITIME CONFERENCE.

BOYCOTT BY SHIPOWNERS. BUSINESS TO BE CONTINUED. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received October 14, 7.35 p.m.) GENEVA, Oct. 13. The Maritime Conference has been reduced to representatives of tho various Governments and tho workers' delegates. Jt has been decided to carry on. Tho workers express the opinion that all tho shipowners seized upon the objection to the British workers' representatives as an excuse for an attempt to torpedo the conference and prevent * the adoption of tho oight-hour day system. Tho situation is unique. Tho shipowners believe the conference cannot constitutionally carry on in view of the treaty provision that it must represent tho Governments, workers and employers. The owners' withdrawal from tho conference is described as an affront to the British Government, the Trades Union Congress and the Labour Office.
