.TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from '7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Fair to cloudy weather is indicated, pvercast at times and unsettled, with scattered showers, especially in east coast districts, and most of the Auckland Province. Conditions are likely to become unusually cold, particularly in the South, where somo inland frosts are expected. Tho genem 1 outlook indicates temporarily unsettled conditions prevailing, followed by an early renewal of fine weather. A slight cyclono, is developing off tho cast coast of the North Island, between Gisborno and Napier. Easterly do south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, and strong to' galo between East Capo and Wellington. Rough seas on the east coast and in Cook Strait, mainly moderate elsewhere. Barometric pressure is high over the Dominion and is likely to increase further, becoming very high shortly. Snow is expected on the Southern highlands.

The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—Pressure is still very Inch from Tasmania to southern New Zealand:. In the north, however, • it is falling slowly, conditions being somewhat disturbed in subtropical waters. Indications arc for south to south east winds from Cook Strait northwards, elsewhere south to south-west, moderate to strong. Seas rough about Cook Strait and between Akaroa and East Cape. Moderate to strong south to east, winds, and moderate to rather rough sens in the. central and northern portions of tho eastern Tasman Sea, variable with smooth to moderate seas in tho southern portion. Weather changoablo and showery in eastern districts, except Canterbury, but more especially northward of Castlepoint; fine in districts with a westerly aspect. Cold temperatures with frost inland in tho South Isiand. , RAINFALL RECORD. Fall in City (Heralp gauge): 21 hours ended midnight. October 14 .17ln.
