Tho fourth annual. Palmerston North to Wellington road cye.le race was decided yesterday under fairly good conditions. Tho roads, with tho exception of tho stretch to Foxton, were in good order. Thero was an absence of wind until the competitors reached tiie top of tho Paekakariki Hill, whero they ran into a growing soulharly. W. Husscy, Foxton, started off the limit mark, and from boginning to end led tlwi field unaccompanied after the first mile.

At one minute to 9 tho competitors wero despatched from tho Square in Palmerston North. Hussey established an exceptionally fast journey to Foxton, passing this point over 18 minutes ahead of his co-marker. Passing through tho Foxton township tho scratch men had gained two minutes on tho 10-minuto riders, and Lukey and Cairo were doing most of the work. Hussey reached Levin at 11.7 a.m., after covering the 37 miles unaccompanied in good time. Blakeway and W. Collins, Palmerston North, who woro off the 17-minulo mark, rode steadily through Levin 51 minutes after tho limit man bad passed. Thero was still no appcaranco of tho 15 10-minuto men and tho scratch riders.

Stiff Climb Up Hill. Hussey reached Paraparaumu at 12.50. Between Levin and Obaki the scratch men caught, up with the 15-minuto and 10miuute riders. On the run to Paekakariki Hussey made good time and commenced the task of climbing the hill at a steady pace. Riding, running, and at times walking, (he 17-year-old champion at length reached the top at 1.37 p.m. Tasker reached the top 20 minutes after Hussey. Lukey, Webber and Blakcway commenced the climb in a determined fashion and performed the feat of reaching the top without onco leaving their saddles. Tho leader, on the descent of the hill and on the run around Paremata Bay, was doing a good 20 miles an hour, and tackling the inclines met with in that locality in a very determined manner. Eventually reaching tho Basin lleserve, he circled tho track and crossed tho finishing lino, after having covered practically the entiro distance unaccompanied.

Changes In Rear Division. Changes were taking place among tho rear markers. Tasker had tired after descending tho big hill and was caught by tho back markers, Lukey and Webber. Lukey had x been doing most of tho work in the backi division and was tiring when ho led Webber into the reserve, to circle tho track. A hundred yards from tho line Webber put in his final effort and crossed two lengths ahead of Lukey. Tho next rider to show up was Tasker. Blakeway put in an .appearance next, followed by Spencer, Christian, Puinti and R. Ericsson, in tho order named.

Campbell, Wellington (30m), 6h 37m 3 2-ss. Tho fastest time was made by G. Lukey, with 5h 34m 20 3-ss, tho second fastest timo by S. Webber, and the third fastest time by E. Blakeway, Palmerston North.

LANGE CROSSES LINE FIRST,

Fifty-two amateur cyclists competed in the annual Christchurch to Amberly road race yesterday. W. J. Lamberton and F. J. Grose, both off scratch, dead-heated for fastest time and the 30-miles road championship of Canterbury. Their time was lh 21m 30s.

Tho placings resulted:—K. G. Lango (2m), 1; G. F. Browno (4m 455), 2; H. li. Young (3m), 3; N. Berry (3m), 4. Groso and Lamberton finished twelfth.
