THAMES BOROUGH QUARRY.
UTILISING METAL SLIP. PROPOSAL BY THE COUNCIL. [by telegram.—own correspondent.] THAMES, Thursday. As a result of tho decision of tho Works Committee of the Thames Borough Council, it is now probable that the council will bo able to gain at least 2000 yards of metal frort the Waiotahi quarry, which last year was abandoned after running for nine months at a loss.
Recently a slip brought down about 2000 yards of metal across the tramway. As the council is unable to finance the cost of an engineer, tho borough street and road works aro now supervised by tho Works Committee, under Mr. 11. R. Bush. This committee has put into operation a schemo by which the stone will be crushed at tho quarry face. A mile of tramway, when the rails and sleepers aro removed, will be used as a road for transporting tho metal to the borough streets. Tho work will bo done by members of tho borough staff. It is estimated that tho metal can bo quarried and carted at a cost of 8s 6d a yard.
