BOY, SCOUT TOURNAMENT.
i DEVONPORT WINS SHIELD.
• 'A boxing tournament arranged for the 'Auckland District Boy Scouts Association by tho Auckland Sauadron of the_. Legion of Frontiersmen, wae held in the Kitchener Hall last evening. '-Che commjsaioner for New Zealand of the legion, Captain E. D'Esterre, presided over a large gathering of Scouts, parents and frontiersmen. Captain D'Esterre paid a tribute to tho efforts of Lieut. W. Palmer, M.C., through <whoso efforts the tournament had been arranged. Mr. S W. ,T. Holdsworth, Auckland commissioner of tho Boy Scouts' Association, , spoko in appreciation of the action of the legion in promoting the tourney. _ The bout 3 wero at all fime3 interesting and quito spirited, the boys' aggression equalising their lack of knowledge of tho finer points of boxing. The program mo connisted of 2i bouts, which wero between Scoots drawn from troops from all parts of the city and suburbs. Entries were limited to two per troop. Medals were presented . to the winners by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, at tho conclusion of tho tourney. A shield was ' Awarded to tho Devonport troop for gaining tho most points. This, will bo held for a year, when it will again ho subject to competition. A cup presented to the scout gaining tho most number of points for his troop was won by S. G'atchpole. During tho evening the Auckland Artillery Band rendered selections. Lieut. W. Palmer acted as referee.
