RUNAWAY HORSES.
DASH UP. QUEEN STIREET.
MAN'S PLUCKY ACTION.
A pair of runaway horses which dashed up Queen Street yesterday morning drawing a timber waggon were halted as the result of a man's plucky action in catching the reins of one animal. The waggon was standing on Queen's Wharf when the horses became frightened. They careered along the wharf with the waggon rocking dangerously afc the rear. The wharf gates were safely negotiated and the runaways crossed Quay Street and proceeded up Queen Street, fortunately on the right side. A clear run was given the animals, people scattering in all directions. The horses were stopped by Mr. Stanley Francis, a motor-cycle salesman, employed by Messrs. Goodwin and Moorcraft, Karangahape Roadv He caught the reins of the near horse when they were just past the chief post officii. He was dragged for some distance and was in danger of going under the waggon wheels, but he managed to bring the horses to a standstill near the Waverley Hotel. The waggon uas pulled round, coming to rest against the kerb.
Mr. Francis is a well-known League football player and played in the recent inter-island match.
