! Tho presentation of a clock anc} barometer was in ado yesterday to Mr. M. Simmonds, deputy-registrar of the Supreme Court, Hamilton, who is leaving to tako up an appointment as clerk of the Court at Tauranga. Th.o presentation took place at Hamilton and was mado by members of tho Hamilton Law Society, The president, Mr. F, A. Swarbrick, said in tho six years Mr. Simmonds had been in Hamilton he had rendered valuable service to members of the legal profession and his great knowledge of Court practice and procedure had been always available. They all regretted his departure. A pleasing function took place, at Messrs. Thompson and Hills, Limited, warehouse on Saturday morning, when Mr. Herbert Digglo was made a handsome present by the staff on the occasion of his retirement from tho firm's service to enter business on his own account. Mr. W. R. Durbin, secretary, who made tho presentation, referred to Mr. Digglc's 20 years' service. Presentations were made to Mr. and Mrs. G. Lippiatt, of Pokeno Valley, this week to mark the retirement from the teaching service of Mr. Lippiatt, who hns been headmaster of the Pokeno Valley and Pokeno Schools for 32 years, and who has been teaching for 47 years. On behalf of the residents of the district and former pupils of the school, Mr. Lippiatt was presented with a chiming clock, and Mrs. Lippiatt was presented with a gold wristlet watclli. .At another gathering Mr. Lippiatt was presented with a black ebony walking stick,, and Mrs. Lippiatt was given a, salad bowl.
