PINK COAT COMING. TO CONTEST G.N. GUINEAS. The southern colt Pink Coat is coming to Ellerslie to contest the Great Northern Guisoas and he is expected to arrive this morainr in chare of E. J. • Eiiia. As a. turo-year-old. Inst mar,on Pink Coat ; crfanned with markka success, winning four of-his five encasements and running second id the other, "when he was beaten hiilf a length by Silver Paper ever seven furlongs iii th« time of Ira 21 -1-us. Apparently tjbe colt has trained on splendidly in the meantime, for he revealed considerable dash when he made his reappearance last week in cwrying 9.6 ar.d winning with preat ease ovej sis furlongs in. lm 1-1 1 -s. Those he defeated in his latest, outing v/ere certainly not a formidable crowd of sprinters, hat his performance indicated that he is going to be relatively as pood as a three-year-old ai! he was at two years old. By Hunting Song from the All Red (winner of two Auckland Cups) mare Red Edna, Pink Coat is bred well enough to ran any distance, mid many pood judges are very enthusiastic, regarding his prospects thin seascn. His presence in the mile classic nest week ''ill invest the event, with considerable interest and hiR meeting with Eaglet. who has an unbeaten recoid this season. should he one of the features of the coming spring carnival. It . certainly looks like the •outherner being a tough. proposition fcr the best he will meet here ar.d a furtner lice on his ability i.« likely to be obtained Iran hir running.
ZIRCON FOR SYDNEY. SHIPPED AWAY YESTERDAY, j The .juniper Zircon was shipped to Sydney by the Maheno yesterday, being ticcom • ptmit'd by his trainer, W. Garrett, and •jockey, E. Garrett. Zircon is to compete So the jumping events at the spring carnival at Hs-ndwick and his particular mission * will probably be the steeplechase events on the second and fourth days of the meeting As the gathering opens re?:t Saturday, he "will barely be there a week before he has his first race, and it might not be in his favour that' he will have to race at such short notice after his arrival. The big ftillow was in excellent form when he won the Grey Lynn Hurdles at Avotidale on Handay and should he display similar dash »t Kandwick he is likely to be very troublesome to his opponents. After his race at the beginning of the week he was given a ;/ dose of physic and was on the easy list for * few duys before leaving. It is understood that Zircon has been reasonably *eighted for his opening engagements on fiJtt other side and therefore he should b$ favourably placed to show form provided that his condition is right when he has to rae». It will be interesting to see how docs perform in view of the fact that hjw departure was left so late.
