FORTY YEARS' SERVICE.
CANON OF ST. PAUL'S. Canon Newbolt, senior Canon of St. Paul's, was 85 recently. Ho is in his fortieth year of servico at the Cathedral. While being interviewed, Canon Newbolt stated that more respect was being shown for tho character of St. Paul's than was formerly tho case. " People used to come in to study their newspapers," ho continued, " and 1 had to stop it. lam convinced that the open I door and tho tranquility attracted these ' people, who did not realise that the odi- | fice was the House of Cod, and not. a place sot apart for the digestion of the latest financial or-sporling news. It was not so much a lack of reverence as fail nro to appreciate that, so vast, a place was intended for worship.
