JUMP FROM BRIDGE.
INQUEST ON J. M. OTWAY. A verdict of suicide by pimping from Grafton Bridge was returned by tho coroner, Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M.. at an inquest held yesterday into the death of Joseph McDuff Otway, aged 61, widower. The deceased, who was found severely injured in the deepest part of the gully under tho bridge on September 11, was sliited to be- a marine smith, living with his daughter at 135, Eden Terrace. [ The daughter said that deceased had suffered from influenza, and appeared to be depressed. Ho experienced pains in : the head and was unuble to work j Arthur Henry Sorenson said that he 'saw a runr* climb tho parapet and jump from t lit) bridge. Ho hastened to tin* gully below,, where, ho recognised the man as Otway. Constable Edwards snid that when no went down to tho gully alter being sumlimned by telephone tho man was still conscious, and said "1 jumped over the bridge, but I do not know why I did it. I am sorry I caused so much troublo." Dr. Keith Mucky snid that deceased received severe internal injuries, includ- | ing a fracture of the spine. Ho died two I hours after his admission to the hospital.
