THREE FORMER WIVES ALIVE.
A sensation was caused at Indore, India, a few weeks ago by a report that Udai Singa, Raja of Jhabua, who has already i married eight wives, of whom three are still alive, was contemplating a ninth union with a Rajput girl of 18 years belonging to Pali, in Jodhpur State., . The Raja, who is 64 years of age, was deprived of his powers in 1927, and has since lived at Iridore, where -his eighth marriage to another Rajput , girl, also 18 years old, was celebrated six months ago. In order to avoid, a demonstration, the Raja had arranged to have- his bride taken ,to Mhow for tho ceremony there. Ho receives a monthly allowance of 5000 rupees (£375) from the Jhabua State Treasury, and evory new wife brings him . a dowry, called tica, from tho father-in-law, .with certain lands .for Jior j.jnain- . tenance. *
