ST. MICHAEL'S, REMUERA.
COMPFTITION REALISES £1740
A Popular Girl competition organised by the ladies' committee of St. Michael's Roman Catholic parish, Rerruera, was brought to a successful conclusion in the Newmarket Municipal Hall on Tuesday evening, with a special concert. The competition was arranged to provide funds for erecting a new church in the parish. Tho parish priest, Father Bradley, announced that the competition had been a magnificent success. The efforts of the three committees working for the three popular girls had realised a grand total of £1740, a sum that far exceeded his expectations. The announcement of tho victory of Miss Elva McDonald was enthusiastically received. She had gained 70,467 votes, representing £833 13s 4d. Miss Rewa Henley was second with 45,325 votes, representing £513 lis 4d, and Miss Kathleen O'Leary was third with 34,703 votes, representing £392 16s lid. Father Bradley, in handing souvenirs to each of the three competitors, congratulated them and expressed his pleasure at tho way in which the three committees had worked.
Mr. J. L. Conlan, speaking on behalf of tho church committee, expressed its appreciation of Father Bradley's zoal in the parish and congratulated him and tho committees upon tho success of the competition.
