OTAHUHU BREWERY.
PROTEST BY ALLIANCE, CRITICISM OF GOVERNMENT. Indignation was expressed at a meeting of tho Auckland council of tho New Zealand Alliance at the failure of the Government to take nclion against tho establishment of a browcry on tho main highway near Otahuhu. It was pointed out that tho Prime Minister had admitted that tho Minister of Customs should not have granted the Jiconco without consulting the Cabinet, and had expressed tho opinion that the Cabinot would have refused it, yet' no steps had been takon to prevent the establishment of tho brewery. It was contended that the establishment of the brewery as an opon liquor warehouse would induco motorists to purchase and' consume twO-gallon quantities of liquor, with diro results. Tho alliance council expressed its determination to continue its protest against the hrewory, arh] to urge tno Government to introduce legislation which would cancel the Jiconco and prevent any similar occurrence in the futuro.
