NEW ZEALAND COMPETITION.
(Received September 17, 10.35 p.m.)
SYDNEY, Sept. 17
The Tariff Board's inquiry into the application for an increased duty on bacon, ham and pork was continued to-day. Mr. W. B. Blow, tho New Zealand Government's agent, produced a document relating to the Australian-New Zealand reciprocity agreement.
Mr. A. Watson, director of the New South Wales Marketing Board, said practically all the ham and bacon coming into Australia was oxported from New Zealand, the f.o.b. prices being Is 3d to Is 3id per lb. The landed costs into storo at Sydney, with the duty, brought the price to about Is Bd. The prices thus charged for New Zealand ham and bacon conformed substantially to those charged for Australian products. The inquiry was adjourned to Melbourne.
