HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening;— Fair to cloudy weather is indicated with cold night temperatures, although bocoining milder shortly. Conditions aro likely to be unsettled at times, with scattered showers, particularly in western and southern districts. Westorly winds, moderate to strong, veering to north, then freshening. Fairly rough seas on the west coast; smooth to moderate seas elsewhere. Thcro is evidence of the development of an intense westerly storm area on the south-west Tasman Sea, which is expected to affect Dominion conditions after about 24 hours.

GOVERNMENT REPORT.
The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A pressure distribution of the westerly typo prevails from Western Australia to beyond New Zealand. A series of depressions is moving iu soul hern latitudes, while barometer readings arc high in the north. Indications are for winds between northwest and south-west, with north-wester-lies prevailing in Cook Strait, mainly moderate to strong, but reaching gale force at times in and south of Cook Strait. Seas in New Zealand waters rough on the west coast and off shoro south of Castlepoint, elsewhere smooth to moderate. North-west to westerly winds in the eastern Tasman, strong to galo force in the southern portion, with rough seas, modcrato in the northern portion, with smooth to moderate seas. Weather mainly fair to fine and mild at first, but becoming unsettled in western districts, with rain, some heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island, later eonditioncs becoming more generally unsettled. Cooler after about 24 hours.
