THIEVES ENTER OFFICE.
FAILURE TO OPEN SAFE. Thieves entered tho offico of tho Pukemiro Collieries depot, in Porter's Avenue, »near tho Mount Eden railway station yards, during tho week-end. Tho handle of tho safe was broken off, and there was evidence of other attempts to open it. Tho work is considered by tho police to bo that of youths. It is not known how entrance was gained to tho building, as when tho manager arrived yesterday morning tho doors and windows were intact. A piece of iron had been torn from the doors at the front entrance, but there was not sufficient room for a man to havo entered. Nothing was taken. Early on Sunday afternoon a showcase in front of Woollams' pharmacy in Karangahape Road, near Pitt Street, was forced open and a camera, valued at £3 10s, stolen. When the manager left the shop at about mid-day tho case was intact.
