UNUSUAL CONFIDENCE MAN.
TEN POUND NOTE TAKEN.
LARGER AMOUNT REFUSED. A New Zealand farmer who is travelling by tho steamer Karoola to Perth was robbed of £lO at Adelaide on August 30 by a confidence man who entered into conversation with him when ho • left tho vessel at Port Adelaide. Tho stranger claimed to bo a fcllow-passengcr, and at his suggestion tho farmer accompanied him to Adelaide.
Tho two men went to a building, whore the stranger said that he had some business .to transact. He left tho farmer, but several minutes later returned, and asked him whether ho could change a £2O note. • Tho farmer took from his pocket £2O in small notes and three £lO notes. Ho offered tho stranger £2O, but tho man said that £lO would bo onough. He took a £lO noto, and went into tho building. Tho farmer waited for an hour, and then reported tho matter to the police.
