GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.
NEW ZEALAND CONTESTS.
RECORD NUMBER OF ENTRIES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Monday.
Record entries were received for the New Zealand golf championships to be played on the Wanganui Club's links, commencing on September 26 and continuing until October 4. There aro 70 professionals and amateurs with a national handicap of 6 and under entered in the open and amateur championships. With approximately 25 with national handicaps of 7 and over, and a limit of 72 competitors, this will mean a draw for the last two of the .72 places. The committee has decided to allow the other entrants to play provided they arc agreeable to start before 8.30 a.m. or after 11.30 a.m. If these players have to start late in the morning their afternoon round will commence at about 3 p.m. Preference as to the time of starting for additional entrants will be given those with the lower handicaps. All who have entered are being circularised to this effect.
The draw for the open and amateur championships will take place on Thursday evening.
