NEW SCHOOL DRILL.
OBJECTION BY COMMITTEE*
Objection to the new system of physical training in schools, which is-ieplac J ing physical drill, was made in a letter from the Point Chevalier School Commit* teo received by the Auckland Education Board yesterday. The committee stated that the new drill recently introduced into the Point Chevalier School was not looked upon with much favour by parents. The matter had been considered and tho committee was of opinion that during the winter months it was inadvisable to allow children to iie on the ground for"the purposes of drill. ' . it. <) The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said that he thought the old Swedish drill had been considered satisfactory. Physical trainv. ing was evidently. a new idea of the department. . Mr. H. S. W. King said that there would be no objection to children lying on the boards of a gymnasium, but 1 was different on the ground. !?rhe matter was referred to the senior inspector for a report.
