TAKAPUNA COUNCIL.
DESTRUCTOR SMOKE TROUBLE
LEGAL ACTION THREATENED.
The Takapuni Borough Council met 'last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presiding. Mr. J, Collins wa« welcomed on taking his seat for the first time. A letter was received from the Takapuna Western Area Ratepayers and Residents' Association threatening legal action if the nuisance caused .by smoke from tho North Shore destructor were not immediately remedied. Mr. .T. Guiniveu ;md Mr. Collins referred to the wide extent of tho trouble. The Mayor said that the matter was causing considerable concern to the destructor standing committee, but when the engineers responsible assured it that the smoko nuisance had been minimised it was inolined to feel that the reports of the nuisance were exaggerated. The letter was referred to the Standing Committee, with a recommendation (hat the advice of an expert engineer should be sought. Advice was received from the Auckland Automobile Association that it considered that white lines were more efficient than traffic domes in the direction of traffic, and suggesting that domes should be replaced by white lines within the borough. On the motion of Mr. Guiniven it was resolved to rertiove the domes wherever possible, and to replace them with white lines. Tho danger to vehicular traffic caused by the gas lamp pedestal at the corner of Anzac Street and ITurstmere Road was emphasised by Mr. Guiniven. It was decided to have tho pedestal removed.
