SURGEONS' CONFERENCE
DISCUSSIONS AT HONOLULU. ANOTHER MEETING IN 1933. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. HONOLULU. A us. 21 At the Pan Pacific Surgical Conference to-day Hie fact was brought out in discussion that disease of the gall-bladder is increasing in Australia and New Zealand. Early operation to prevent infection was urged. Local surgeons supported the recommendation made by Sir James Barrett (Melbourne) for standard universal visual requirements for railway engineers and marine pilots. Dr. A. Hume Ford, director of the PanPacific "Union, announced that a second conference would be held at Honolulu in 1933. The delegates would include members of the Fur Eastern Tropical Medical Association, the Pan-American Medical Association and the Australian and New Zealand branches of the British Medical Association. Sir James Barrett was appointed chairman for Australia and New Zealand of the second conference. The Australian and New Zealand delegates gave then assurance that their societies • would support the conference if it were called in August, 1933, or 1934, so as not to conflict with their own meetings. A resolution was unanimously adopted inviting the Pan-American, Far Eastern, Australian and New Zealand Associations to take part. It was also suggested that joint conferences should be held every 10 years in Honolulu.
The conference recommended tho PanPacific Union to create a health section in Honolulu to serve the Pan-Pacific area.
