HUIA DAM CONSTRUCTION.
GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED.
COMPLETION BY OCTOBER. Excellent progress is being made with the construction of the Huia dam, it was reported to the Auckland City Council last evening. ' ' The Works Committee slated that the reorganisation of staff and adjustments to plant had been fully justified, as in spite of the wet weather a record amount of concrete had been deposited during the past month. A total of 3548 cubic yards had been placed, making a grand total of 33,668 cubic yards. The estimated quantity to complete was approximately 5000 cubic yards. The main portion of the structure had been raised to the 534 ft. level, there being only 10ft. of concrete required on the main portion ""to complete the structure. The excavation for the wing or cut-oil walls would bs completed within a week. All the valves and intake pipes were in position, and it was anticipated that the structure would be completed at the beginning of October, or two months earlier than was anticipated in the 'last report, in May. It was thought, too, that a substantial saving would be made on the amount mentioned in the last report.
