RETURN OF THE DUNEDIN.
EARLY VISIT TO WELLINGTON.
THE CHANGE *IN COMMODORES
H.M.S. Dunedin arrived from Wellington yesterday morning after an absence from the naval base of over two and ahalf months. During that time, in company with H.M.S. Diomede, she co-op-erated with the Royal Australian Navy in manoeuvres off the Australian coast, as well as visiting numerous ports in the Commonwealth.
On September 3 the Dunedin will leave for Wellington, where she will be joined by the Diomede, which is at present visiting southern ports. While in Wellington Captain G. T. C. P. Swabey will relinquish command of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy and will.be succeeded by Captain G. Blake, who will arrive in Wellington from England with his family on September 6. The Dunedin will leave for Auckland on September 18, and is due hero two days later. She will leave on September 30 on a cruise to be arranged by the new commodore.
The Dioniede is due from Wellington on September 9, and will be docked at Devonport from September 17 to September 24. While tho two cruisers are in port transfers of ratings will bo carried out. About 200, or about halt, of the Dunedin's crew, including 19 officers, who have completed two years' service on the New Zealand station, will transfer to the Diomcde, which is expected to leave for England early, in October for a long refit. A similar number from the Diomcde who have yet to complete their service here will change over to Lh3 flagship for the remainder of their term. Only about four of the Dunedin's picsent complement of officers will remain on the vessel.
