ROWING REGATTAS.
DOMINION CREWS INVITED. AUSTRALIAN OFFERS DECLINED. [DY TELEGItAFK.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'. ] WELLINGTON, Thursday. Invitations to New Zealand crews to compete at tho forthcoming championship regattas at Sydney and Melbourne were declined with regret at a meeting of the New Zealand Rowing Council last evening. Tho secretary, Mr. A. D. Bayfield, said ho had received advice from tho New South Wales Rowing Association stating it was agreeable to alter 'the dates of its championship regatta to next March so as New Zealand crews would be able to compete. After' consideration had been given to the proposals and replies from the local associations discussed, the following resolution was cabled to Sydney:—"That the Now Zenland Council greatly appreciates tho offer of tho New South Wales Association to alter the date of its championship regatta, but that, in view of tho opinion expressed by local associations and the uncertainty of being able to finance the visit, the invitation for a New Zealand eight to competo cannot bo accepted. The council cables its decision with great regret and extends an invitation for a New South Wales eight to visit New Zealand to compote in tho inter-provincial eights and other races that may be arranged." An invitation was also received from the Melbourne Amateur Regatta Association for a four to compete at the Australian Henley, on October 26. As it was reported that neither the Hamilton four nor the Union (Wanganui) four, which were first and second respectively in last years' championship fours, was ablo to make the trip, the invitation was also declined with vegret, for tho reason that thero did not appear to be a club four available up to the standard required.
