The Swiftpool is the first new steamship on Lloyd's British register of ships designed for world trading which is completely dependent on powdered fuel for firing. She was inspected by experts at West Hartlepool. The vessel is of 9000 tons, with a length of 421 ft. She is unique in that she has no alternative for the hand-fired boiler, but is designed solely to be operated on tho Brand system of powdered fuel. The main bunkers have a capacity of 2000 tons, and are arranged on the upper deck. A hatch ts provided for trimming the coal into the daily nervine lumker. Two pulverisers on the stokehold floor, convenient to the bunkers for breaking down slack coal. There is a reserve fuel supply overhead in the stokehold, which is sufiic.cnt for several hours' steaming with tho pulverisers out of action.
