WHANGAREI HIGH SCHOOL.
ADDITION TO BUILDINGS.
MINISTER OVER-RIDES BOARD.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] YTHANGAREf. Fridw.
For a considerable time the Board of Governors of tho Whangurei High School has been endeavouring to obtain authority from the Minister cf Education, tho Hon. H Atmore, to build on its own property a modern woodwork room on the site of the new school, and an up-to-date cookery room on the old High School site.
The Minister, however, agreed to remove the existing manual training school situated gd the Whangarei primary school grounds to the High School grounds, and offered a grant for this purpose. On his recent inspection of the property it was clearly pointed out to him. that the board's wishes in the matter did not coincide with his own, that the board desired to have two separate buildings, one on each of its properties, and that it would cost a large sum of money to remove the existing building to a new site. Simultaneously the Primary School Committee asked for the retention of the building on its present site, one room to be used as an overflow class-room for tho primary schooi, and the other as a sheltershed for the children in the cold and
wintry weather. Notwithstanding these representations the Minister has now sent a telegram to the board as follows: ''l have decided to approve of the removal of the manual training building to the High School site, and have advised the Auckland Education Board accordingly."
