LUXURY LINEN.
DELICACY OF COLOURS. Just as tho white damask tablecloth has been ousted from the table by coloured cloths and table trials—so has coloured linen in lovely pastel tints brought a change m bed-linen —and 1 think tho idea good, for the soft colours add personality and charm to one's room, while it also lends itself to hand embroidery worked in harmonising colours. The top sheet has quite a deep hemstitched hen.—about four inches—along which is embroidered a lloral design, or sometimes three or roar rows of satin stitch spots or a bold monogram or siriglo letter in the centre of the hem. The pillow-cases —open at both ends — aro hemstitched and extend some inches beyond tho actual length of tho pillow. and embroidery decorates them to match tho sheet.
Such designs as a powdering of daisies nr butterflies, tiny burls and small bows are most effective and quickly worked. An alternative to embroidery is slot insertion along the hem in which ribbon is run and tied in an important-looking bow in the centre, embroidered on the sheet being a spray of spiky flowers which, rising above the ribbon bow, look as if they wero tied in position.
