HANDICAPPING QUESTION. NEW SCHEME ADOPTED. BY PICADOR. Some little time ago a conference was held to consider the Question of handicapping and tho outcome was that the delegates propounded an automatic system of hand] capping whereby msanran penalties tor winning and placed performances were fired. The system wr.3 proposed with the idea of preventing bor»es from being unduly penalised for recording fast times on fast tracks tth»n such performances represent nothms better than slower times on Blow tracks Delegates to the recent New Zealand Trotting Conference gave the matter further consideration, and. as a result, it has been decided to give the system a 12 months' trial. This decision has found fcrrotir among owners and trainers and they are thoroughly satisned to give the system a fair trial, it will be interesting indeed to see bow the scheme will work. Sometimes there will be instances where horses registering fast times will appear to have the best of the figures, although they may occur mostly m the slower classes where the margin of improvement is generally greatest. In these cases connections cf other horses in the race will have a measure of ealety in the knowledge that for beating or falling places behind horses who come m favourably under the system that the penalties such performances will incur will be limited The following is the system which the New Zealand Trotting Conference has decided to adopt for the coming season: TWO MILES.
