COURTROOM AFFRAY.
A VIOLENT PRISONER. 1 There was a violent scene nt the Middlesex Sessions when John O'Brien, ;l ,Tcd 26, a motor mechanic, was sentenced to three years' penal servitude for sending a letter to his. wife threatening to murder her and their two children. While descending the stairs to the cells ho caught sight of l.is wife anil father-in-law, and with a loud shout mado to jump over the dock. The wifo screamed, and warders had to he called to get hold of him. Still shouting, he was dragged down, and (lie warders and O'Brien fell down sevcial steps together. According fo the evidence, O'Brien sent his wifo a telegram saying ho wanted to see the children, and later there arrived a letter asking her to bring the children to a certain place. If sho did not_ turn up, the letter added, he would wait for his chanco and murder tho three of them. O'Brien went to the meeting-place and was arrested, and a dagger was found in his pocket. , . Sir Montagu Sharp®, in passing motence, said: "Goodness knows would have happened if the wife gone to meet him."
