New Zealand, coloured, is quoted at 935, white 91s. No Australian cheeso is offered. REPORTS FROM MERCHANTS. IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES. Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., yesterday received tho following cablegram from its London office, dated July 18:—Butter: Finest, 1745; market firm but very quiet at the higher price. Cheese: White, 91s; coloured, 93s to 945; market steady. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., received tho following cablegram from its London house, dated July 13:—Butter: New Zealand, finest salted, 170s to 1745; Danish, 174s to 1765; Australian, finest, unsalted, 164s to 168s: Australian, (inest, salted, 162s to 160s; Australian, good average quality, 156s to 160s. The market is quiet. Cheese: New Zealand, white, 90s to 91s; New Zealand, coloured, 93s to 945; Canadian, white, 89s to 90s; Canadian, coloured, 91s to 925; Canadian, c.i.f., 88s to 89s. Tho market is quiet, top prices exceptional. Andrew Clement and Sons, Ltd., received the following cablegram from its London oflicc, dated July 18:—Butter: 171s to 1735; market firm. Chcose: White, 90s; easier; coloured, 935; market firm. Norden and Co., Ltd., received the following cablegram from its London house dated July 18:—Butter: Salted, 170s to 171s (f.o.b. equivalent, Is 4.5 d, Is 4.6 d). Cheese: White, 89s (f.o.b. equivalent, 7.97 d) ; coloured, 91s (f.o.b. equivalent, 8.16 d). MARKETING DAIRY PRODUCE THE AMALGAMATION SCHEME PROSPECTS OF ORGANISATION. [by telegraph.—press association. ] PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday Tho scheme for co-ordinating dairy produco marketing by the formation of an organisation to bo known as Empire Dairies, Ltd., was explained to a large meeting of dairy factory representatives in Palmerston North yesterday by Messrs. W. Grounds and W. Goodfellow. Mr. Grounds announced that from present indications 50 per cent, of New Zealand butter would be available for handling by the organisation in the coming season. No estimates were made concerning cheese. Mr. Grounds urged acceptance of the proposals, as the soundest practicable method which had been advanced. Mr. Goodfellow indicated that the proposal was to enter into active business competition with Tooley Street, on a consignment basis, but not to fix prices. It would be easy to arrange for adequate finance. Tho object was to eliminate saies competition. The speakers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. Thcro was no pronounced variation in the prices realised for fruit at the Auckland City Markets yesterday. Apples and peats remained at about last week's rates. Hothouse tomatoes have decreased to 9d to 2s per lb., while hothouse grapes also shared a decline in value. Poorman oranges were dull of sale, while lemons were somewhat easier. No local passions were available. Island oranges brought 22s 6d a case. A fresh shipment of oranges will arrivo from the Cook Islands to-day by the Waipahi, which will also bring a quantity of tomatoes. The field produco market continues to be well supplied with cabbage, pumpkin, swedes and turnips and also heavy stocks of all root vegetables. There was u fail demand for all lines. Southern uoiatoes have increased to 9s to 10s per cwt. Hothouse cucumbors only realised 6s to Ss fcd a dozen, a decrease of 5s 6d a dozen on the rate ruling earlier in the week. There was a medium supply of poultry, the demand for cockerels being very keen. Other table birds also sold wall, the prices showing a slight increase. No turkey hens or gobblers were offered. There was a good demand for moderate supplies of both hen and duck eggs, the prices showing a slight increase. A keen denand existed for tanners' butter, which was again in short supply and sold at the unaltered rata of Is Id to Is 4d per lb. The following are yesterday's prices: FRUIT.
