TROUBLE OVER CHEQUE.
ACCUSED DENIES CHARGE. [ny 'ra.Eoiurn. —own correspondent. ] WHAXGAREI. Friday A chargo of attempting to defraud Henry Wilson, draper, of VVhangarci, >f the sum of £ls by means of a valueless choquo was preferred against Frederick Alexander Brydon in tlio Magistrate's Court, at, Whangarei to-day. Ilonry Wilson, in evidence, said accused entered his shop at 5.20 p.m. on June 24 and asked him to cash a cheque as he wished to go lo Auckland Witness jcfusud at first but when Brvdon made n purchase to the value o; £1 witness accepted the cheque ,n payment, txivintr the nalance in cash Brydon assured him tin; money was in the bank to meet the cheque When accused did not return Jmm Auckland and the cheque was Hishonoured at the bank witness laid an in formation lo the police. Cyril Ilcdditcli an official of the Bank of Australasia at Whangarei, said that until Juno 17 last Brydon had an account at the bank Brydon had arranged an overdraft of £25 which was guaranteed hy a Mr. Lamb When the overdraft was exhausted cheques were dishonoured Aecused's account had existed since 1925 nnd ho had been informed when tho funds had run' out. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to tho Supreme Court at Auckland for trial.
