THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. LARGE VOLUME OF BUSINESS. rhero was an increaso in the; volume of business transacted on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Eighteen sales were recorded, trading being well distributed. The market generally retained its firmness Buyers were again eager to obtain Government stocks and local body securities. Inscribed Stocks, 1938 and 1939, 4j, per conts, changed hands at Now Zealand Browory debentures closed (ivepence firmer nt 27s 6d. In banks a new level was attained by Nationals of Australasia, which, oon tinning the upward trend that has been marked since tho beginning of the year, were clone at £l9 17s New South Wales, under persistent buying, aro ro turning to the firmness which they showed last May, and had sale at £sl 10s, an incrcaso of 5s upon tho as transaction. In insurance there was little liiov ment on late rates. Now /ealands were dono one shilling bottci at. £- 7s 9d, and South British at the current price. In woollens Well ingtons changed hands at £7 6s, equal last sale. , New Zealand Breweries, whicn htiv ® been in kco> demand, also established a new high level at £4 2s 6d at tho noon call, more being sought at tho same price, sellers advancing to £4 4s. Australian Glass wore firmer, buyers offering Is advance on the previous day s rates, and holders moving up a corresponding amount to 565. Colonial Sugars wore a little easier, being done at £5/ 12s bit In mining tho firm tone of Waihi Grand Junctions was maintained, sate being made at lid Kuala Kampar Tins were dono at 14 s Id, an easing of 2d on tho last transaction.
