TAUPO AS TOURIST RESORT.
Sir, —In the Herald of the sth instant Mr. E. Earle Vaile informs Taupo that it can stay out in tho cold if it wants to. That experience would be nothing new to Taupo. The Massey-Coates Government left Taupo out in the cold when money was being spent on tourist attractions. A return showing how much the past Government spent at Rotorua during the last 20 years and a return showing how little the same Government expended at Taupo in tho same 20 years would be most interesting reading. What Taupo asks for is to be treated by the Government as Ilotorua has been treated. May I ask what Rotorua be to-day had there been ho Government money expended in buildings, baths, laying out the parks, tennis courts, bowling greens and developing its .natural Taupo does not expect the same amount of money to be expended as has been the case at Rotorua. Taupo does not blame tho present Government for tho unfair treatment that has been meted out to them by the general manager of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department. Now that Sir Joseph Ward has taken the portfolio of Tourist and Health Resorts, we at Taupo have reasons to believe that Taupo will receive a fair share of the expenditure required for each resort to play its part in successfully developing tho tourist traffic. J-L. Taupo, July 3, 1929.
