CITY AND SUBURBAN EFFORTS, '
Auckland has contributed the very fine sum of £21.453 4s 3d to the funds being raised for the relief of distress in tho earthquake areas. '1 his is the total in the funds centred in the city ' and suburbs, and although to these many contributions liavo been made by residents in the country, Hie total does not include (he sum of the local lists in various parts of tho province. Large donations have been made by business firms and local bodies, and citizens in all grades of prosperity have contributed. A feature of the collections has been the combined donations made by tho employees of many firms. The money collected is being paid to the central committee set up by the Government, and which is charged with its apportionment, among deserving cases.-
