LADIES' HOCKEY.
SATURDAY'S PLAY REVIEWED
BIG SURPRISE BY MOUNT EDEN
The seniot and junior grade competitions of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association were resumed on Saturday after a break of one week to allow representative trial games to be played. The results of matches in the junior grade did not in any way alter the positions of the teams, Papa toe toe and Somerville retaining I heir leads in A and |i sections respectively.
The senior grade results wero quite unexpected. In the Arawa-Y.W.C.A. game the plav, although not of high standard, was of a more even character than the result would indicate.
Y.W.I'.A. scored two of its g< i;i]s ill quick succession in the fir.-l half, and did not find tho net again until some" time after the iiifoi - \:il. Miss MeL.ichlaii »i»-ttotl nil tliroc I'm - her tram. Misses flail (2) played good games for Araww. while Miss Mi'La i 111 a n was easily the most outstanding player for lier side.
The other .senior grade game, between Wesley and Mount Eden. was the big'surprise of the day. Wesley took the field a player short, Imt notwithstanding this, nnd in spite of the fact that seven of its opponents had trained representative honours in tho Auckland A Country Week team, if managed to down its more seasoned rivals. On the whole, the game was not very fast, although many movements wore interesting. Wesley had the hotter of the open play throughout. Misses Bestic and Twining did good work for Mount Eden, while Misses II. Saunders and M. White rendered valuable service for Wcslev.
FOOTBALLKIJS' FEET
LEFT LARGER THAN RIGHT
It is not. generally known that the avei age man'ii left foot is larger than his light, but this has been found to tie the case by a Dutulce hoot salesman. .\ census of foot sizes was-lecentlv. taken over a fortnight, and wlifii the results were totalled tho difference in favour of the left foot was found to be quite appreciable. Most men kick with the right foot, and it is supposed that kicking has the effect of stunting the growth of tho member used, says a Dundee paper. In support of this theory is another test by the same salesman, which has revealed the fact that, whereas tho average size in hoots for men is eight those who are continually p'.aying'football average only six, a surprising number taking fives, aud quite a few four«.
