FIRM TONE MAINTAINED.

There was again an unsatisfied inquiry for Government securities on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, the prices offered being unchanged. In commercial debentures New Zealand Breweries sold 4J,d easier at 26s 4£d. The market opened at 26s and 26s 9d, and closed at 26s 2d and 263 6d, compared with Monday's closing rates of 25s 8d and 26s Od.

fn banks Commercials of Australia were done threepence cheaper at 29s 6d, but the market closed slightly finnei at 29s 5d and 29s Bd. Nationals of New Zealand also sold easier at £7 3s 9d. Offers for Nationals of Australasia wcro 2s Gil better at £l9 I2s 6d, but holders again refrained from quoting. An afternoon offer of £ls lis for Unions of Australia brought an easier quotation of £ls Ms Od.

Tlicio were no marked, changes in the insurance section. Nationals maintained their firming tendency and sold at 16s 4d. In loan and agency Goldsbrough, Morts firmed threepence to sell at 48s. In gas Aucklands recovered and sold at 24s 6d. tho price paid at tho end of last mouth. Tlio market for timbers was firmei. In breweries New Zealands had early salo at 775", the price paid on Monday, later sales being made at 77s 3d. Tho market closed firm at 77s 3d and 77s 9d.

In miscellaneous Colonial Sugar offers woro better by 2s 6d at C 57 12s 6d. sellers unchanged at "£SB. There was demand for Robinson Ice Cream at 225, sellers steady at 245. A renewal of offeis of 42s for Wilsons Cements again failed to attract quotations. In mining there was a fur ther improvement in the price ot Ohinemuris, a .parcel of shares changing hands at 8s 9d. Mount Lyells sold at 47s 9d, a recovery of threepence since last week. Kuala Kampnr tins were done at 14s, a drop of scvenpcncc on the last sale in March.
