WINTER EXHIBITION.

DOG SHOW OPENS TO-DAY,

INTEREST IN BABY CONTEST.

Completing tho first \\eek last- evening, the Auckland Winter Exhibition continues to draw large crowds of visitors, both during the day and throughout the evening, and, although tho gate takings showed a decline yesterday, tho dog show, which opens to-day, is expected to.quicken interest during the next fewda vs.

Yesterday the gate receipts amounted to £290 16:s, which was a decrease of £35 4s on (lie amount taken on the corresponding day of last year. The receipts for the season to date, however, amount to £2327 16s, compared with £2292 for the same number of days last year, an increase of £35 16s. Over 1700 school children and 54 teachers visited the exhibition yesterday, as well.as a large number of delegates from all parts of the North Island who are visiting Auckland to attend the -Agricultural and Pastoial Association's conferences.

Keen interest is being displayed by the public in the baby championship contest, which began in earnest'last Friday and will be continued until Friday evening, when the final count will be made. Progress reports of the voting are being announced from (into to time and at 10 o'clock last evening the, position was as follows:—Baby Hickman, 602 points; Baby Mildon, 543; Baby O'Sullivan, 533; Baby Lelean, 521; Baby Grogan, 521. Further progress reports will be made this evening at 7 o'clock and again at 10 o'clock/

All dogs, other than terriers and toys, arc to lie benched at 9 a.m. to-day ready for judging, which will lake place at 10 a.m. In Iho afternoon, starting at ono o'clock, the conference of North Island Agricultural and Pastoral Associations will lie hold. At the exhibition another display of fancy dancing will be given bv Miss Bcrcsford's pupils in the evening.
